I am originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Midwifery is my passion. I am a certified professional midwife (CPM) and hold the New Mexico midwifery license (LM). Because I am bilingual (Spanish-English) I am able to serve a broad community of women in northern New Mexico. It is my heart-felt belief that every mother should have her baby where she feels most comfortable and secure – at home, in a birthing center, or in the hospital. All four of my children were born at home, two in Brazil with an Ob-Gyn (MD), and two in Miami with a midwife.
I deliver babies in the familiar comfort of home, and for mothers who prefer or need a place away from home, I can deliver their baby in Breath of My Heart birth suite in Española. You can expect my caring support before birth (prenatal phase), during delivery, and for six weeks after birth (postpartum). I facilitate your preferred birthing method, including water birth.
When not bringing new babies into this world, I consult to espanol.babycenter.com, where students know me as partera Elena. Possessed of a gypsy heart, I have made my home in Rio de Janeiro, Miami, San Francisco Bay Area and Northern New Mexico. Before following my passion and becoming a midwife, I was a teacher of young children for many years. I received my BS in Kinesthesiology at Instituto Nacional de Educación Física in Buenos Aires and an Adapted Physical Education Specialist Credential from San Francisco State University. My husband Steve and I make our home in Santa Fe. Our children have left the nest and we are presently raising two dogs and a cat.
I have been catching babies since 1998. I have been drawn to midwifery since I was 11 years old. After giving birth to my first child at home, I heard the call to be a midwife. Midwife means “With Woman” and that is my gift and my passion.
I believe that every family deserves gentle, individualized care throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the post partum period.
I offer full hour prenatal appointments, and a strong post-partum presence, with up to seven home visits in the immediate six week post-partum period. I do all post-partum appointments at your home.
I work closely with some of Santa Fe’s best professional practitioners of homeopathy, herbalism, osteopathy, and a host of other healing modalities. I offer water birth services and tub rentals.

I accept Self pays, Credit cards, Private insurance, medicaid, and payment plans.

New Growth Midwifery is a small homebirth practice offering you personalized holistic care with the consistency of one midwife. My name is Tanja Bolle. I am a New Mexico Licensed and Certified Professional Midwife and have been practicing as a homebirth midwife since 1996 in the Santa Fe area (I will travel up to 90 minutes for births). “New Growth” comes with the philosophy that we all have the opportunity to develop and change with each pregnancy and birth, that we can establish and deepen roots as well as branch out to create a strong community of empowered women and families. I take this to heart as a midwife and mother and try to foster a space of openness and growth with the women I work.
New Growth Midwifery offers services for the entire childbearing year- from preconception to prenatals, labor and birth, postpartum and well woman visits. One of the things that makes this practice unique is that all visits are provided in the comfort and security of your own home, together with your family where you will give birth. Taos Midwifery is run by Certified Professional Midwives whose specialty is offering maternity care in an out of hospital setting.
Working to uphold a longtime tradition of midwifery in Taos, we act as guardians of natural birth by offering a wellness model of maternity care and drawing on our extensive knowledge of herbal remedies and other holistic modalities. We approach pregnancy, birth and postpartum as healthy and sacred life events that are deserving of individualized, culturally compassionate care, seeking medical intervention only when necessary.
Our hour long prenatal visits and extensive postpartum home visits allow plentiful time to build trusting and respectful relationships and to deliver highly individualized care. We take the time to discuss the risks and benefits of all standard procedures so that decisions are made based on the unique needs of the clients while prioritizing safety for the mother and baby.
Clients may give birth in the comfort and safety of their own home or at our clinic, which is located in Ranchos de Taos. We offer water births, VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), doula services as well as annual exams and well woman care, working seamlessly within the medical maternity care system in the rare cases when medical intervention is needed.
I have been a midwife for over 35 years with twelve hundred plus births. I am licensed in New Mexico, registered in Colorado and am a Certified Professional Midwife. I represent the Four Corner’s most experienced practice in home births. This has given me a deep appreciation for the unique challenges facing women today and an understanding of the natural process of birth. Culturally, we live in a fear-based society that is at it’s most vocal concerning the process of birth. Overcoming the biases generated by that fear requires education and an understanding of what is normal and natural. “I am passionate about working with women and families and empowering them to experience the joys of natural childbirth. ” Together, we create an environment where change is not only possible but is actively pursued.
My practice spans both the northwest corner of New Mexico and all of Southwest Colorado as well. My office/clinic is located in Durango, Colorado but provide care all over the Four Corners including Farmington, Bloomfield, Shiprock, Cortez, Pagosa Springs, Durango, and all the communities between. I have clients on the Navajo reservation, members of the Mennonite church, and folks from all walks of life. I take New Mexico Medicaid, private insurance, and self-pay clients. Services include pre-conception counseling, prenatal care, home birth services, post-partum care, newborn care, and well-women care.
